A Child Training Bible (& link up)

I’ve felt a tug on my heart to bring more of God into our day to day lives. More scripture, more worship, more evidence of Christ in us. A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon a blog post sharing about a Child Training Bible.

The Child Training Bible website sells the kit, and also links to the additional products you will need to put this together. Instead of the Accent Liquid Highlighters, I bought the Crayola 24ct Mini Twistables Crayons. I like these better because it doesn’t show through the page as much.

One of the cards in the kit is placed in the front of the Bible (I used a tape runner). It lists the different heart issues and corresponds with the tabs. So if I want to teach them how to handle fear, I flip to the scriptures using the tabs lined up under fear. The scriptures are listed on one side of the other three cards. What I especially like is the added Gospel section. It covers God, man’s need for salvation, Jesus, and what to do next.

The scriptures are colored to match the tabs making it easy and fast to find the correct one.

Here’s a closer look – notice I’ve written in pencil what the scripture corresponds to. This helps in case you have the same color, but different issues on the same page. I plan to go back through and use a pen to rewrite the words. One, I think it will last longer, and two, it’s easier to read.

In the back, I’ve clipped the other three cards, and the instructions for putting together and using the kit. I’m thinking I need to decorate that clip! But I digress. I already mentioned that these three cards have scriptures listed, but the second side of each card has questions you can ask your child, a scripture reference showing the correct response to the issue, and short, scripture-based prayers you can pray with your child (or use as a stepping off point for your own prayers).

My teen daughter and I put together this Bible, and two things happened during that:
1. I had to stop and use it with my younger two.
2. I was convicted of something in my own life! Ouch.
