ScienceandMath.com sent my family the Amazing Science! Volume 1 DVD to review. There are two DVDs with 23 science experiments to explore. Each video has a list of supplies, step-by-step instructions, and an explanation of what’s happening in the experiment. The experiments cover electricity, magnetism, heat, temperature, pressure, surface tension, buoyancy, and more. These DVDs are geared towards grades 1-3.
Jason Gibson is the scientist in the DVDs, and you can tell he loves science and sharing that passion with others. Jason has advanced degrees in Engineering and Physics and also worked as a rocket scientist for NASA. I found that tidbit interesting.
When the DVD first arrived, we sat down to watch the first experiment to see how they were set up. We ended up watching several. At one point, I paused to see if I could find a supply list sheet on their website. No such luck. So I set about to make my own. We watched each video and wrote down the supplies needed. We ended up watching both DVDs straight through.
As you can see on my written supply list, I colored the supplies I already had in blue. I was pleased to find I had most of the supplies on hand. Next, I wrote a shopping list for the rest of the supplies needed for the science experiments we chose to do at this time. We ended up doing about 17 out of the 23! And we will be doing the rest at some point. The kids have already decided they will be redoing their favorites, too.
Anyway, I put most of our supplies in a big box, and we got started. The idea was to do the experiment along with Jason, and then watch his explanation. However, we ended up remembering most of the explanations from our original watch through. So we only watched the step by step directions and then the explanations we couldn’t remember.
This DVD says Volume 1, so I’m hoping that means a Volume 2 will be coming at some point. If so, we won’t watch the videos ahead of time. We will do our experiments along with Jason, and then watch the explanation right after we do each experiment.
We also could have spaced the experiments out, but we had a whole box of goodies inspiring us. We ended up doing all 17 experiments in one weekend. We wanted dad to join in for some of the experiments, so the weekend was perfect for this. We could have done multiple weekends, or spread some through the week, but enthusiasm took over.
Did I mention enthusiasm took over? We loved these experiments. Jason is engaging and kept our interest, the experiments were easy to follow, the explanations were understandable, and the supplies were (mostly) easy to find. We were all so disappointed to skip the dry ice experiment. I think my husband took it the hardest. 😉 Apparently, no one in town carries dry ice right now. However, one place said they usually have it in the summer, so we will be stalking their aisles.
Anyway, the recommended grades might have been 1-3, but all of us (kids, teens, and parents) enjoyed the experiments. Even my adult daughter and her husband joined us for a few. There was definitely something for everyone. If you are intimidated by science, especially science experiments, you’ll love Amazing Science! I feel confident enough to pick up my science experiment books, and tackle some of those now. Plus, my kids have fallen in love with science again.
I do believe they should add a PDF supply list to their website, but that is my only con. Everything else falls as a pro, and I really enjoyed delving into these experiments right along with the kids.
Amazing Science Volume 1 DVD is available for $17.95. You can also get a download version for $14.99.
If you look on the website, you’ll find a list of the experiments included on the DVDs plus, there are a couple of sample videos for you to check out, too.

Audra, I’m very interested in this. Do you think you’d be willing to type up the supply list? It’s harder to read from the picture. I think my kids would love it. Pinned it!
