Yes, I do love tongue twisters, why do you ask? Take a minute to say the title out loud several times fast. I dare you. Now wasn’t that fun? We all need to laugh sometimes, and just be silly. Especially when the world is a little squirrely.
On that note, my kids need a little fun, too. And what is more fun than shooting things through the air? These two pins were my inspiration for some playfulness with my kiddos.
How To:
1. Optional: Use colorful permanent markers to decorate the craft sticks and clothespins. I simply did diagonals and outlines. My kids each picked the colors they wanted.
2. Glue craft sticks to the tops of each clothespin. I left a little of the nose showing on my clothespin.
3. Glue bottle caps to the top of the sticks. I would suggest leaving room at the end for their thumbs. I didn’t do this, and it made it a bit trickier to launch.
4. Anchor your catapults somehow. You could anchor them to a block of wood, a weighted box, or do what we did: I pinched a craft stick in the clothespin so they could hold it in place.
5. Figure out what you want them to use as ammo. We used crumpled paper balls.
6. Set up your targets. We used paper plates and added points to each. Plus, if you want to take pictures of your kids from the view I did, you become the target. They totally giggle when the paper balls bounce off your head.
These little catapults were quick to make, and give hours of fun. I think our next targets will be paper cups stacked in a pyramid with Lego dudes scattered here and there. Which reminds me of another pin…
The total cost for this project: $1 for the craft sticks from the Dollar Tree. The rest we had on hand. Funny expressions on the kids faces: priceless. 😉 And I may or may not have made my husband and me catapults, too.
