CTC Math gave us a 12 Month Family Plan for their online math program. Oh. My. Goodness. I’m seriously in love with this program, and so are my kids. CTC Math covers grades K-12, and the kids can work at their own pace, re-watch lessons as needed, and repeat the interactive questions or worksheets to gain more practice.
Each student has their own log in, and then they have access to all the grade levels. You can assign what you want them to do, and even move between grade levels as needed. Parents have their own log in section as well. Here they can get an overview of how many lessons the kids have completed, view a summary report or detailed report, and what certificates they have acquired. I love how handy this is for looking over everyone’s progress.
I chose the level I wanted each of my kids to begin at, and then I let them take off with it. Occasionally they ask me for clarification, but for the most part, they haven’t needed me. They have no trouble navigating around the site. Once logged in, they watch the video lesson, and then answer the questions. My kids all seem to be trying for mastery, so sometimes they repeat the questions until they reach 100%. Once they finish a section, I have them take the Standard test. Once they complete an entire grade level, I have them go back through and take all of the Comprehensive tests as a final review. I let them do the Speed Skills drill once they’ve completed their lessons for the day. They can also do the Times Tables Shoot ‘Em Up game on the homepage-after lessons of course.
As for me, I log in to the parent section, and skim through everyone’s reports. Then I log in to each kids’ section, and peek through their grade level to see where they are, how far they have to go, and if they’ve missed any tests. I also use this time to encourage them if I see a lower score or congratulate them for hitting their mastery goals.
This program is really different from our current curriculum, but that’s a good thing. I thought about completely switching over, but I’ve decided to use both for a well rounded and solid foundation in math. We will definitely continue using this when our current subscription is finished. The kids love CTC Math, and the youngest two even squabble over who gets to do it first, and can they please have their turn now. I never thought I’d have to threaten to take math away for the day. Such a funny dilemma. On their own, they have decided to work towards mastery of each section, and they really like getting to work at their own pace. They feel that they will easily pull ahead of their grade levels because the instructor makes it so easy to understand the material. I agree considering how well they are moving through the program so far.

This is the first time I’ve ever been tempted to switch math programs, and that says a lot. I finally decided to use both hand in hand. The one I currently use has a down side of lower test scores (when we do the state testing), but a solid foundation in math skills. I feel that CTC Math will compensate well for this deficiency, and I look forward to seeing how they test out after using this for a while. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think CTC Math can stand on it’s own, but I really like my original math curriculum, too.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this program. The kids and I all love it! I do have to fight them a bit to work on their old math curriculum because they’d much rather do this one. I may have to have them work on the one to earn CTC Math time. Again, such a funny dilemma to find myself in. But I can work with that.
I should also mention the teacher has an Australian accent which we all find fun to listen to. Everything sounds better with an accent, right?!
CTC Math 12 Month Family Plan (two or more students) is currently on sale for $118.80 for homeschooling families. I think the program is worth the regular price, but this sale is awesome! Check out the page for a single student plan, and other subscription options.
