Egglo Entertainment sent me some wonderful goodies to review. We like to stay focused on the beautiful reason why we celebrate Easter, so I keep an eye out for products that meet that purpose. This review seemed like a great opportunity to test these out.
So what goodies did I receive? Glad you asked. Egglo Entertainment sent us their Egglo Glow in the Dark Easter Eggs and The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure story book by Darcie Cobos. They also included their Egglo Treasures Scripture Scrolls, and sent links to download The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Program Guide (curriculum) and The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure audio book.
Egglo Entertainment’s products are geared towards ages 4-13, but could be adapted to work with other ages. It can also be used by churches or individual families, and be as simple or as involved as you like.
The first thing I did was to skim through the Program Guide and see what ideas and pages I wanted to use with my kids. I only printed out what I needed/wanted from there. I also printed out the Egglo All Year-Round ideas from the website.
Since I liked several ideas, I decided to make this a two day event. First, I made a list of the ideas I wanted to use. I only chose two of the snack options and wanted both story options, so I put one of each per day. Then I split the other activities between the two days.
The prep and supplies needed were minimal, and we quickly got everything ready, and our eggs charged. Both days, the weather was overcast, so we let the eggs sit in the window all day, and then finished charging them under a lamp about an hour before it got dark. We had a scavenger hunt one night and a regular egg hunt the other night.
We used the scrolls, candy, and chewable vitamin C as fillers. The kids laughed when they got to the last egg with the vitamin C. Then groaned that they should have eaten it before the candy. We also added glow sticks to the celebration, and to help them in the search.
The kids got a kick out of celebrating Easter so early. They really enjoyed the glow in the dark eggs with the crosses, the activities and coloring pages, the snacks, and the stories (Biblical Easter account and the story book). I absolutely loved the story.
The character lessons learned were biblical, and applicable to the kids’ lives. I liked that the characters in the book were likable and easy to identify with, but that they also grew in their faith as they each learned something about their flaws and how to handle them.
One really cool thing is that the glow in the dark eggs and the scrolls both relate to the story, so the kids had fun doing the same things as the kids in the book. We enjoyed a wonderful family time both nights, and will definitely add this to our future Easter celebrations.
As for the audio book, I didn’t use that as I preferred reading the story to the kids myself.
