Your Family in Pictures – The Parents’ Guide to Photographing Holidays, Family Portraits, and Everyday Life by Me Ra Koh is a wonderful resource for anyone who wants to take beautiful family photos. Both Me Ra and her husband (also a photographer) have a passion for making photography accessible for everyone, and they’ve traveled the world teaching people the wonder of photography. Me Ra even hosts her own TV show called Capture Your Story with Me Ra Koh.
Your Family in Pictures is approximately 144 pages filled with tips and tricks to inspire connecting, cherishing, and celebrating your family not just for the big events or special days, but also in the everyday moments. She has included forty “photo recipes” which are more than ideas of photos to capture. Yes, you get some neat ideas, but she goes even further by including tips for when and how to capture the photo, how to prep for the shoot, specific settings for both point and shoot and DSLR camera users, and composition ideas.

Me Ra begins with setting yourself up for a successful photo shoot and ends with tips on choosing the right gear for you. She discusses various lighting situations, backgrounds, field of focus, positioning and so much more. This book is a visual feast with beautiful photographs throughout and a wealth of information rich in content but simple in understanding and application.
Simply put: I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to capture their family in photos. I have learned so much, and I can’t wait to work through all the different “recipes” she’s included.
Your Family in Pictures is available for $19.99.

Me Ra has two more books that I would love to add to my photography library: Your Baby in Pictures – The New Parents’ Guide to Photographing Your Baby’s First Year and Your Child in Pictures – The Parents’ Guide to Photographing Your Toddler and Child from Age One to Ten.
You can read an excerpt or check out the table of contents for an idea of what you will find. You can also find Me Ra at her website, on Twitter, and on Facebook.
