Fruit of My Spirit by Deanna Nowadnick is a memoir style book originally written to the author’s sons. The book is a series of personal stories each relating to the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I could relate to a few of her struggles and feelings, and how God uses our experiences to shape and grow us. Some of her stories had me laughing; others found me looking back over my own experiences and seeing, once again, God’s goodness and grace through it all.
I’ll admit, when I first started reading it, I wasn’t sure it would hold my interest. I don’t typically read this type of book, but I’m challenging myself to stretch and grow this year, and that includes what I’m reading. I’m glad I pushed through. There were chapters that really blessed me. I also love the idea of writing down our stories and spiritual truths we’ve learned for our children.
Fruit of My Spirit is about 100 pages making it a quick read. I love the pictures sprinkled through, and the hymns at the end of each chapter. If you enjoy memoirs with a touch of spiritual truth woven gently through the narrative, pick this book up.
About the author:
When not writing, Deanna serves as Client Service Coordinator for The Planner’s Edge, a financial advisory firm. Deanna is active in her church, playing the violin and editing the monthly newsletter. She loves to knit, adores chocolate, and most importantly, enjoys a blessed marriage to Kurt. They are the proud parents of two adult sons, Kyle and Kevin.
Deanna is currently working on Book 2. Signs in Life: Meeting God at the Corner of Grace and Mercy tells of those times when God has come alongside and guided, directed and turned her. The book is another collection of short stories, this time recounting how God has met her at life’s crossroads, when she’s been “on point” with God, not because of anything she’s done, but because a loving, gracious, merciful God was there time after time, again and again.
You can find out more about the author and her book at her website, Fruit of My Spirit. She also has a blog, and can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
