Do you ever have those days where you feel ugly? Plain. Boring. Blah. Your closet is uninspiring. Your hair needs lovin’. Your makeup is so-ordinary. I’ve been in a bit of a fashion and beauty rut lately. Pajamas and sweats have been rather near and dear to me. Now don’t get me wrong, I do love some cute, comfy pajamas, and sweats are fun to lounge around in-occasionally. Occasionally being the important word here. But I feel more inspired when I look nice. Plus, my honey should get the best of me, not the world.
The Sunday before last, I finally decided to do something about it. I opened my iPad, and turned to Pinterest for inspiration. Pinterest is great for collecting ideas, and for learning how to do things. However, it is important to keep it all in perspective. The photos are not telling the whole story. At least mine don’t. I can crop out the huge mess off to the side. You can’t hear the chaos surrounding the photos. And let’s not get started on bloopers.
When it comes to fashion ideas, again, you need to keep it in perspective. It would be awesome if I could go out and buy the outfit I see. But I can’t. Sometimes the prices are high, or maybe it’s no longer being made, or perhaps money is tight. Or the plain fact that, contrary to what I might think sometimes, I don’t actually need or dare I say, even want everything I see.
What I do find wonderful is that turning to Pinterest helps me get creative with what I do have already in my closet. I look for similar items, and then recreate what I like. It also reminds me what key pieces I might need or would like to eventually add to my wardrobe. Then I can look for these at thrift stores, on sale, or add to my wish list. A wish list is great to use for birthdays and Christmas.
So keeping perspective in mind, I grabbed a long sleeve tee, a scarf, a thin belt, and my jeans out of the closet. Rolling my jeans is a new look for me, but I liked the end result. Plus, it shows off the cute wedges even better. I also went with colors more suitable to fall.
I finished the look with simple, dangly earrings. I think I came pretty close to the original look using what I already had. By the way, the adorable shoes were a thrift store find!
Now, what would I have done if I didn’t have one of the elements? I would have looked for a supplement or left it out completely. We are using Pinterest for ideas, and if you come away having tried something new or found a different way to wear something, you did great. You’ve added to your fashion sense which can only grow the more you play.

LOL – no, not Chrysti. Thanks. I love my shoes, but I think I need to add something to the heel inside the shoe. 🙂
