I love fall: crisp cool mornings, hearty soups, gorgeous fall leaves and boots! What’s not to love? Actually, there is something not to love when it comes to boots.
They do not like to stand at attention in my closet. Anyone else suffer from floppy boot syndrome? Mine always fall over on each other, and I don’t like the way they crease when they do. So while browsing Pinterest, I ran across this pin:
However, I didn’t want to use pool noodles. One, they aren’t cute, and two, the cats would LOVE to gnaw on them. And who wants pool noodle bits in their boots? Not me. So I came up with a fun solution-sweater sleeves!
I am already in sweater mode because I want to make sweater pumpkins and boot toppers, so it seemed a natural solution for boot shapers, too. I made two cuts: one to salvage the cuffs, and the other to snag the rest of the sleeves.
Okay, so here is the quick and easy way to make boot shapers:
1. No sew method: Turn the sleeves inside out, gather one of the ends into a bunch, and then secure with a rubber band. Flip right side out. OR…
2. Sew method: Turn the sleeves inside out and sew a straight stitch (or zig zag) on one end. Flip right side out. Mine is actually straighter than it looks, but my fingers are poking the end. If you don’t have a machine, you can easily sew this by hand. Then…
3. Fill with Polyfill, plastic bags, scrap material…whatever you have laying around. I used Polyfill.
4. Secure with a rubber band and pretty ribbon. Because everything looks sweeter with ribbon. I didn’t sew this end shut because Polyfill seems to compress over time, and I might want to add more stuffing later.
Aren’t they cute sitting down in my boots? They make me smile. Especially since my boots are now standing up in my closet. I’d love to see photos if you give this one a try.
And look what yummy sweater scraps I have left! The cuffs will become boot toppers before long. As for the rest of the sweater, I haven’t decided yet, but the owls are too adorable. Maybe a hat? More boot toppers? Scarf? You can bet I’ll be using as much as I can though. It’s so soft.
As for my other boots, I’m thinking this white sweater might soon become more boot shapers.
