Kinderbach for Young Children is a piano course geared for ages three to seven. Kinderbach is designed for the classroom and for the home. You have three choices for the home version: Online Membership, DVDs or the iPad.
For my review, I received access to the online version. There are six levels in Kinderbach, and each level has ten weeks of lessons (four lessons per week) plus an Activity Book for that level.
You can either print out the entire book as you hit each level, or you can print out individual pages as needed per lesson. I chose the second method because I found I didn’t need every page for my kids, although I am using most of them so far. There is also a parent guide available that includes Music Theory notes and tips for success.
We have a laptop connected to our TV, and this is where we watch our Kinderbach lessons. I turn the piano keyboard to face the TV, grab the worksheet and supplies for the lesson, and we watch them together. I pause as needed for practice or to do a worksheet/activity. It really is this simple. I find the entire family is more inspired to learn the piano now.
My daughter, age six, is the official tester of this curriculum, but my son, age nine, asked to do it, too. I thought I’d get their perspective:
Amber’s Thoughts ~ “It’s nice. I like it. The best is the Beat Bugs when they sing. It was funny. I also like Jake the dog when he put the balls on the stairs. It’s fun to play the piano.”
Jake’s Thoughts ~ “I like it. I like learning music. It’s cool. My favorite part is coloring, and playing the piano. I like the cartoon characters. I really like my mom teaching it.”
Mama’s Thoughts ~ This curriculum definitely appeals to the younger set. The pace is slow enough with plenty of repetition for them to remember what they are learning. The characters are engaging, and the instructor is enthusiastic – which draws the kids in. Both kids love the program, although, sometimes Jake finds it a little goofy, but that’s because he’s older than the recommended age range. You can take the kids through this at their own pace. With Amber at the higher end of the spectrum, we’re able to move a little faster which holds her interest better. I really like this program, and look forward to watching the kids learn how to play songs along the way.
