The other day I shared about how the desire to write has begun to well up inside again. Not just a need to blog again, but to write for the sake of writing. Poetry. Fiction. Non fiction. Journaling. I want the words building inside to flow out on paper and keyboard alike.
I’ve been around prolific writers enough to know growing as a writer requires…writing. A daily practice of pouring words out without worrying about the editor inside. She can have her turn later.
I need the habit of writing.
I ran across a post the other day by Jeff Goins: My 500 Words: A Writing Challenge, and decided this would be a great way to begin meeting my goal. I have to admit, I’m on day three and it’s been hard to sit down and do it.
Day one I had the newness to rev me up, but these past two days, I’ve been SO TIRED. It would be easy to put off the challenge since I don’t have any pressing deadlines or anything yet. But that will never build this daily practice habit. So I will press on and at the end of these 31 days, I hope to see a wide variety of poetry and prose left in my wake. Some of it might even be good.
How about you? Are you a writer? Have you developed a daily habit of writing? Is it word count based or time based?
If you want to join me in creating a solid habit of writing daily, I’d love the company.

I’ll join you! Though some of my work later in the month will be editing and graphics (I’m working on finishing curriculum), it’s still a good standard to meet. I think it’s a great idea for you to develop that habit and allow yourself to write in different genres.

Oh good! A partner in crime or rather good habits lol. I agree, I’m excited to play with various writing genres. What subject is your curriculum?
Melanie Wilson says
It’s an elementary language arts curriculum. I’m going to get my word count in today on a blog post though. 🙂

Oh that sounds interesting. When is your deadline? I’m getting my writing in through morning pages and journaling today, but I’m brainstorming writing ideas, too. Just not writing on them yet. 🙂

I found you through the periscope Mommyscopes. I just did my first one and can’t believe I’ve already connected with two writers. You and one other. I understand that feeling of words building up on the inside and needing a chance to become concrete. I am Historical Christian Fiction writer. I have an agent but since I’m trying for the traditional publishing route things take TIME. When I sit to create, I try for 1,000 words. I only get it about three to four times a week. But man is it rewarding. I use a software called Scrivener that has a project word count you can set each time you sit down to work. I love how the software helps me stay organized with all the different types of writing and projects I do. Hope this comment doesn’t come across too self-absorbed. I just felt like I bumped into a kindred spirit. I scoped on July 5th. Headed to find you on there next. Blessings on your writing and your word count.

Hello to a fellow writer and scoper! I’ve heard of Scrivener for years, but I’ve never tried it. And your comment wasn’t self-absorbed at all. I love chatting with other writers. 🙂 Thank you for coming by my blog. 🙂
