One of my closest and dearest friends, Sarah Coller from Classical Homemaking, has inspired me in so many ways as a women of God, wife, mom, and homemaker. So when she announced she had self-published a book called Now: Purposeful Steps Toward a More Abundant Life, well, I knew I would want to read what she had to say about living an abundant life. And I was right.
First of all, Sarah is pretty down to earth and reading her book is like sitting down with a sweet friend and chatting over tea. She shares her personal journey and the wisdom she’s gleaned along the way. In the first chapter, she says, “In short, my doing stopped but my dreaming continued.” I can completely relate to this! It really made me stop and think about my own life and how I have done this very thing.
Throughout the book, Sarah is quick to guide the reader to their Heavenly Father every step of the way. God is the creator of dreams and loves to give us the desires of our hearts according to His will. He blesses us, and when we try to seek Him, and follow His lead, He is able to make things happen in our lives. We simply have to trust that He knows what is best for each of us. Here’s an excellent quote from the book on this, “If I really understood who God is, I’d have no hesitations about asking him for strength, wisdom, direction, time and resources needed to live a fulfilling life.” Ouch. This is so true. If we truly know Him, and stay close to Him, this wouldn’t be an issue. There would be no doubts. We need to learn to hear His voice.
I’m not going to share anymore quotes because you really need to read the whole book in context to receive the full message of encouragement Sarah intends. She has a heart for women, and it really shows in her book. Now: Purposeful Steps Toward a More Abundant Life is easy to read through and at the end of each chapter, Sarah includes some questions for you to answer and pray about. Woven throughout the book are numerous and relevant scriptures. Think of this as an interactive devotional on reaching goals. She discusses how to handle procrastination, discouragement and set backs that inevitably happen while encouraging you to keep Jesus at the center of everything, stay obedient to Him, and pay attention to both our heart and mindset.
I found it easier to write my answers in a notebook, but I also underlined and wrote in the margins quite a bit. This is the type of book that should be read at least once a year, but maybe even 2-4 times a year – like when you review your goals halfway through the year or if you review them quarterly.
Sarah has always inspired me to set my own big life goals, and encouraged me to go after my dreams. Now she has a beautiful book (another dream of hers come to pass) sharing practical steps for living a fulfilling life. I have watched her set big goals for herself and achieve them over the years even with a large family, homeschooling her children, baking scrumptious goodies, and creating a beautiful and charming home. She has been successful at her business endeavors and through her hard work, has even taken trips to England, a place she dearly loves and has wandered the same places her inspiration, Jane Austen, has wandered. She’s living proof dreams and goals can be reached. Doesn’t that inspire you?
Now: Purposeful Steps Toward a More Abundant Life is available on Amazon in paperback for $9.99 or in Kindle format for $4.99.
And now you have the chance to win a copy thanks to Sarah…
