Words are powerful. They can heal. Or destroy. Give life. Or death. So many times we wield them around with little thought to whether they strike like a cougar or caress like a breeze. I’ve always loved words. There are words I love to say because they are fun like bamboozle, doddle, and fiddlesticks. Some evoke emotion such as beauty, meadow, cantankerous. Words dance and play and cavort around us as we move through this life. Every day is full of letters strung together in a delightful assortment of meaning – rich for the mining.
We wield words with little thought to whether they strike like a cougar or caress like a breeze. Click To TweetIt’s little wonder someone came up with the idea of one word rather than resolutions. One word to bring focus for the new year ahead. One word to remember throughout the year. One word to flow throughout each area of our lives bringing a little direction as we travel through the days ahead. One. Little. Word.
In the past I’ve had some wonderful words. Intentional. Bold. Embrace. Looking back, I can see how these words intertwined with life throughout the year. Especially this past year. I embraced a season of waiting. I embraced the need to let go. The need to rest. I embraced change.
Once again, a word has slipped into my heart breathings, taken hold, and shifted my gaze into the new year. A word to ponder…explore…savor…
My One Word for 2016 is PEACE. My heart sighs thinking about it. PEACE. Peace that passes all understanding. Peace from the Prince of Peace.
PEACE: a state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to…the temper of the mind. Freedom from agitation or disturbance by the passions, as from fear, terror, anger, anxiety or the like; quietness of mind; tranquility; calmness; quiet of conscience. Heavenly rest; the happiness of heaven. Harmony. To be at peace, to be reconciled; to live in harmony. Taken from Webster’s Dictionary – 1828 Edition

I like the ‘One Word idea’, especially since resolutions are not for me. I haven’t got a one word yet, but over this weekend I may do a little more soul searching.
Happy New Year, Audra Marie!

Hi! I like when people link their “One Word” with a Bible verse. I think it gives more meaning and direction to the word chosen. My word this year is “Re-focus”, because I lost focus last year. I talk about it and link to previous words I used at http://faithcounts.wordpress.com/2016/01/03/one-word-2016/

Re-focus is always a good thing. This is the first time I linked the two…it kinda naturally evolved. Thanks for visiting. ๐

My word is intentional. I need to be intentional in what I am doing. Intentional with my choices and to make them with my and my families best interests in mind.

Intentional is a great word! I had that word one year, and it still resonates. Every time I think of my one word, the past ones filter through my mind, too. ๐ Thanks for sharing!

I like your choice–to have peace although our world is not peaceful. And I like how you have paired it with a Bible verse. I have chosen the word fruitful. Here is the link to my blog:
