Preschoolers and Peace sent me a copy of their eBook, Preschoolers and Peace: Homeschooling Older Kids With Success While Loving the Little Ones at Your Feet to review. Now, you may or may not remember that I have reviewed for this vendor before. I loved the book about Circle Time, and we still use ideas from it in our homeschool and family life. And yes, we still call it Kairos. And because I loved that little information packed book, I was looking forward to reviewing this one, too, even though I don’t currently have any preschoolers, and most likely won’t have more of my own. However, this summer I became a grandma, and my second grandbaby will be arriving within a few short weeks! Wow…so close! Back to the review…
Since I have now entered grandma-hood, I will once again have preschoolers hanging around our feet while we do school from time to time. So, yes, I wanted to check out this book for sure. This e-book for moms, is a quick read at only 47 pages, and once again, Kendra manages to fill all the pages with wonderful nuggets of encouragement, ideas and tips. So what’s in this book? Well, Kendra shares ideas on how to keep the little ones busy, how to include them, what a preschooler’s day might look like, how to homeschool older kids with younger ones underfoot, the beauty of circle time, specifics on preschool boys as well as ideas for when all of your children are preschoolers, chores the little ones can do and planning preschool. She reminds us of what we need as homeschooling moms, what to do when we are just plain worn out (and/or pregnant), that we mamas are important, and even discusses meal planning. She even includes sample schedules and a wonderful resource section at the end where you can find even more encouragement, ideas and tips.
There is a lot here for a mama (or grandmama) of preschoolers. I love the idea about making them a recording to listen to as well as the prayer ideas. I will definitely be using many of the ideas in this book when the little ones come over. I think though, the part that really had an impact on me for right now is chapter 1: What a Homeschooling Mom Needs. She talks about idols in our lives that keep us from keeping God at the forefront of our lives. We tend to look elsewhere for our identity: husband, homeschooling, nice home, motherhood, etc.) rather than to the One who created us, and calls us by name. Perhaps a fresh vision of who we are in Christ is the best place to begin before settling in to how we attend to our preschoolers each day. I know for me, having my focus on Jesus helps us ALL have a much better day. I appreciated her reminder to allow God to permeate our homes and families.
If you have preschoolers in your life, this book will encourage, refresh and equip you. It doesn’t take long, and the chapters read like mini articles, so you can use small amounts of time to glean nuggets from the book.
Preschoolers and Peace: Homeschooling Older Kids With Success While Loving the Little Ones at Your Feet is only available in Kindle format and costs a mere $2.99.
