You can’t hop on Pinterest without running across adorable outfits complete with boot toppers. I am hoping to crochet some, but that takes time. And, well, I’m impatient. But that’s okay because I have those wonderful cuffs left over from my Boot Shapers.
The pin on the left no longer goes to her tutorial, but I still keep it for inspiration. The pin on the right leads to the Grace and Lace etsy store that I LOVE. She is talented with the knitting needles! I am most definitely not. Granted, I’ve only just started learning, and have hope my hands will stop cramping someday. Moving on.
On to the quick and easy boot toppers:
1. Cut the sleeves from a shirt or sweater. Even better if it has a cute cuff already. Thrift stores or outgrown clothes are wonderful for this.
2. Add trim and embellishments if you like. I recommend stretchy lace which I did not have, so these adorable boot toppers only work with my ankle high boots. And I have to work them a little to get them over my heel. I might redo them if I can get my hands on some stretchy lace at some point. Maybe. I had to hand sew my lace on (and no, you can’t see a close up of that), but it didn’t take long at all.
3. Hem the other end or leave it if it won’t unravel.
Tip: Do not set your needle carefully on your lap, and then forget about said needle as you lean forward causing your upper body to show said needle into your leg. It hurts. Very much. Not that I’d do something like that of course. Ahem.
Tada! I need to get some cute leggings to really show these off better. The jeans are too bulky. Plus, the belt isn’t working for me. And let’s not discuss the ‘wow-I-need-sleep’ look either.
I like these so much, I made another pair. It took less than a minute. It helps that this sweater had pretty trim on the cuffs. I’ll probably sew the hem on these at some point. And I may even add some cute ribbon to the cuff. But for now, they are adorable both tucked in, and covering my boots.
It helps to fold the back under so it doesn’t slip under your boot. These would look cute with pumps, too.
Please ignore my frazzled expression, rebellious hair, and need for a jacket. But tada again. I’m thinking I can totally pull off the in AND out look. Just kidding (this from a woman who currently has a clothespin holding her hair up in a bun-don’t ask). I can’t wait to make more of these. Now what should I work on next…
