Seek And You Will Find

I’m joining the Five Minute Friday community where we set a timer for five minutes, and free write on the given word prompt until the timer goes off…

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! ~Matthew 7:7-11~

As soon as I saw today’s word for Five Minute Friday, this scripture from Matthew popped into my head. You see, we have been asking God to lead us to our new home. In last week’s prompt, I talked about the long wait we’ve had, and this week, I’m here visiting the area we will soon be living in, seeking out the home I know He has for us.

I’d love to say this has been an easy task, and we walked into the first home we saw, and fell in love. But sometimes there is learning to be had in the process, and this is where we find ourselves.

Learning in the process.
Learning what each other wants and expects in our new home.
Learning to let go of a rigid ideal and accept what may be good but not perfect.

The perfect isn’t out there, but the one for us is.

We have asked and we are trusting Him for the giving.
We are seeking, and trusting Him for the finding.
We are knocking, and I know He will open the right door for us.

For now, we must choose to not be discouraged, but to see the no or the closed door as simply confirming that we have not found the right one yet…

Stop.

It’s been an interesting time this house hunting. We have seen some lemons, and we have seen some beautiful homes, too. But nothing quite what we need, so we continue searching, taking our time, and trusting God to lead us to the one that will work for us.

I’ve been praying for something that each of us will fall in love with. Some detail that makes each of us feel like this is home. This includes my mother-in-love who will be joining our household once we are settled in. There will be the normal adjustment period as we learn to live together, but overall, I am so excited for this new phase of our lives. I’m even praying that our home and our guest room will bless future visitors as well.

A place that we and others can find rest and peace…
a place to call home.
