Hola, amigas. ¿Qué tal? <---- Just a little bit of what I've picked up so far. On to the review... Speekee TV Spanish is a wonderful program available online for individual families, for schools, or on DVDs. I received online access for my review, so I’ll share my experience with that.
I believe the best way for children (or anyone) to learn a language is through immersion – seeing and hearing the language being spoken preferably from native speakers. That’s what I love about Speekee TV Spanish.
There are ten videos filmed in Spain with real Spanish children. Add the catchy songs, fun animation, and lively puppets, and you have an engaging format for kids to learn Spanish. Both my 9 year old son and my 6 year old daughter love watching these videos. The rest of the family is picking up Spanish here and there, and joining in the practice of words we’ve learned so far.
There is a fun feature where you receive messages from the Spanish kids. They send one in Spanish, and you can choose which answer you want to send back. Simple, but another way to practice your Spanish.
At the bottom of the page, under the videos, you will find a link called FastTrack. Click on that to access the FastTrack curriculum – a 40 week plan with activities, worksheets, flashcards, and other downloads to help facilitate learning.

How I’m using it:
I let the kids watch the videos often. It’s amazing what they pick up from singing along with the videos. At the moment, I do have the subtitles on (for me), but plan to turn them off soon.
I’ve looked through FastTrack and they have a lot of neat ideas. I view it as a smorgasbord and choose what I want to add to our learning. I also make a list of words and sentences I want us to focus on each week, and we use them as much as we can throughout the day. The following week, I add a little more, and we continue practicing what we’ve already learned. Eventually, I’ll have them practice writing and reading in Spanish, too.
I absolutely love this program. It’s already been such a blessing, and I look forward to getting deeper and deeper into our Spanish learning. This is our core Spanish curriculum this year, and I’ll be supplementing it with other resources I have on hand. If you’d like to check it out, you can watch a sample of one of the videos on their website.
Try it for free:
If you subscribe, you’ll get the first two weeks free. If it’s not for your family, you can cancel. However, if you love what you see, you can purchase a monthly subscription for £4.95 or $7.50 per month or save money with the annual subscription of £39 or $60 per year. There is also a box DVD set available, but the DVDs might not work in North American DVD players, so you’d have check yours for compatibility.
Quick note:
If your Wii is connected to the internet, you can access the videos through there. Our Wii connection isn’t great, so this wasn’t a good option for us. However, I used my iPhone to connect to the TV, and this is a much nicer way to watch the videos (and no captions). If I had an iPad, I’d use that both with the TV, and for individual watching. And on that note, adios, amigas.
