Beloved Books carries a wonderful selection of classic stories and audios for the whole family to enjoy. Our family was blessed to receive the Sugar Creek Gang Volume 1 CDs for reviewing purposes. In August, I reviewed Swamp Robber, the first story in volume 1. My kids were so excited to find out we got more stories!
Paul Hutchens began writing the Sugar Creek Gang series back in 1939. The series are wholesome, Godly adventures that both boys and girls will enjoy. Not to mention their parents. Several years ago, Paul Ramseyer decided to dramatize the book series for the radio. The audios are read straight from the original books. Beloved Books has brought these radio shows to CD for our families to enjoy.
Along with the wonderful Christian message, the stories include snippets of nature study, poetry, hymns, and even science. These follow the natural flow of the story, adding a fun learning element to the faith building lessons. The series appeals to the entire family. My children ages 6 (girl), 9 (boy), 13 (boy), and 16 (girl) all love this series along with mama. Dad has yet to listen as we listen to them while he’s gone, but I know he will enjoy these when he gets a chance to hear them.
There are 36 books in the Sugar Creek Gang series, and each story has two CDs, so there are a total of 72 CDs in the entire set. These are broken down into six volumes each containing six stories. Each story is approximately two hours long. You’ll want to listen to the stories in order to follow the storyline even though each story stands alone. The reason for this is that each story builds a spiritual foundation for the next story in the series.
Volume 1 Stories:
The Swamp Robber
The Killer Bear
The Winter Rescue
The Lost Campers
Chicago Adventure
The Secret Hideout
Our family loves to get comfy with pillows and blankies, and listen to the stories together. It’s a wonderful time to snuggle up with the kids. Sometimes the younger ones will color or draw to help them do something with their hands while they listen. Or we grab something quiet to play with while listening. And you can bet that any future trips we take as a family will include a set of Sugar Creek Gang audios! The trip will definitely seem faster with these stories to listen to along the way.
Pricing:
Each CD set is $54.95 for six stories (approximately $9 per story), or you can buy the entire collection for $279.70 which breaks down to just under $47 per set (approximately $8 per story). Buying the entire series at once will save you $50.
We love to discuss the different things we’ve learned from each story such as the faith aspect or maybe one of the nature segments. Occasionally, I might pause so we can chat about something we heard, but mostly we just listen through, and save the discussion for after. I fully intend to get more volumes for upcoming gifts. In fact, Christmas is right around the corner…
Speaking of gifts…I have a giveaway for one US reader. Remember my review from August? Well, I now have two copies of Swamp Robber. So now one of my readers can win a copy for their family! Again, this if for US readers as the CD format might not work overseas. You will have one week to enter. Don’t forget, yesterday’s giveaway is still open, too!

Evan is really into audiobooks lately since he struggles so much with reading. I have been meaning to order some of these on audiobook but just hadn’t fit it into the school budget yet. The Lamplighter stories sound good too. I can picture some fall/winter fun listening to audiobooks. Anything to get the kids to alternate away from too much time on Netflix.lol Thanks for the chance to win the giveaway! Fun stuff.

I agree! Netflix can be on a little too much here sometimes. I want more audios for sure. I’ve been toying with setting a routine for our evenings to include more games, puzzles, etc. ๐ Oh, and I was given a special coupon code for my readers which I’m adding to this post now. ๐
